Craft an Internal Newsletter
Whether you manage a staff of 50 or 500, having an employee newsletter helps create a sense of belonging and community. It’s a good way to communicate newsworthy and feel-good events to your team. The tone should be reflective of your company culture.
Some tips for an engaging newsletter:
- Keep it brief. It should be long enough to convey valuable information, but brief enough to read during a coffee break.
- Include an executive update. The newsletter should include a section where you can inform staff about bigger picture happenings and company goals.
- Involve all departments. Make sure every department is represented in the newsletter.
- Ask for employee input. Provide the name of someone to contact if an employee would like to contribute an idea or make a suggestion.
- Include photos. People love to see themselves in print. A little photo recognition goes a long way.

- Encourage a two-way dialogue. The meeting shouldn’t be a lecture. It should be interactive, allowing plenty of time for questions and answers.
- Minimize the use of presentations. The vibe should be somewhat informal to encourage interaction between employees and management. If you must use slides, keep it brief.
- End on a high note. The meeting’s agenda will likely address successes and concerns. Save a piece of good news to share at the end of the meeting.
